La Liga: Racing’s teenage sensation Canales shoots down Sevilla; Valladolid hammered by Atletico; Almeria hold Villarreal

Sevilla 1 – Racing Santander 2 (La Liga, January 10, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) A terrific chipped finish from Sergio Canales fired Racing into the lead at Sevilla. 18-year-old Sergio Canales netted his brace in the 38th minute with another fine finish, this time beating both the keeper and a defender before smashing home his second. Sevilla clawed themselves back into the match just after the hour when Romaric bundled the ball over the line from a free-kick.

Valladolid 0 – Atletico Madrid 4 (La Liga, January 10, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) Atletico took the lead after 18 minutes at Valladolid, a cross field ball picked out Reyes on the left and his cutback was swept home by Jose Manuel Jurado. The Rojiblancos, who started the match just a point above their hosts, doubled their lead on the half hour as Diego Forlan struck. Atletico killed the match off on the hour when Jose Antonio Reyes walloped a fierce daisycutter from outside the box that skidded into the far corner. Kun Aguero added a fourth in injury time to complete the whitewash.

Villarreal 1 – Almeria 1 (La Liga, January 10, 2010) Nilmar headed the Yellow Submarine into a 40th minute lead, Miguel Angel Corona equalised from the penalty spot.
