La Liga goals: Sevilla go second in Spain; Valencia denied in thriller with Villarreal

Deportivo La Coruna 1 – Sevilla 3 (La Liga, January 10, 2009) Having faced each other midweek in the Copa del Rey, Rodolfo Bodipo collected the ball on the edge of the Valencia box, steadied himself and fired low into Palop’s near post. Sevilla lost Maresca just before the break, but levelled at the start of the second half as Kanoute worked the space down the right hand channel and cross for Luis Fabiano to score at the near post. With 12 minutes remaining Renato bagged Sevilla’s second, heading home another Kanoute cross. Diego Capel wrapped up the win with a third in the last minute after Navas lead a pacey counter-attack.

Valencia 3 – Villarreal 3 (La Liga, January 10, 2009) Los Che were two goals up after ten minutes through Ruben Baraja and David Villa. Villarreal fought back, Fabricio Fuentes scoring on the stroke of halftime before Jose Llorente levelled on 76 minutes. Valencia reclaimed the lead through Edu three minutes later before Rossi equalised with an 83rd minute spot-kick.
