La Liga goals: Messi leads another magical Barca display; Villarreal held by Osasuna

Barcelona 4 – Numancia 1 (La Liga, January 24, 2009) After a goalless first half (highlights here), Lionel Messi steered Barca ahead after brilliant work on the right hand side from Danny Alves. (Is Alves, a right back, the best player in the world at the moment?) The second was quick in coming, Iniesta played a delicious ball through to Samuel Eto’o who made himself space in the box the fire home. But Numancia hit back with a beauty of their own, Jose Barkero curling home a stunning free-kick that beat Valdes all ends-up. Barca then showed their class, Messi jinked his way through the visitors defence before finding Thierry Henry who passed the ball into the corner. Messi capped another sublime performance with the fourth.

Villarreal 1 – Osasuna 1 (La Liga, January 24, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Giuseppe Rossi continued his fine goalscoring record this season for Villarreal by giving them the lead over Osasuna with a fine chest-down and finish just before the half hour mark. The visitors hit back after the break, Eduardo Fernando Gomes, or “Dady” as he is otherwise known, swept home the equaliser after the Yelllow Submarine failed to clear a cross.

Castellon 2 – Tenerife 2 (Segunda Division, January 24, 2009)

Alaves 0 – Albacete 2 (Segunda Division, January 24, 2009)
