Guti’s amazing assist leads Real past Depor; Pedro sees Barca fry Gijon; Espanyol beat Bilbao

Deportivo La Coruna 1 – Real Madrid 3 (La Liga, January 30, 2010) Esteban Granero headed Real Madrid into the lead at Deportivo. Manuel Pellegrini’s side claimed a second in the first half with a goal of real quality. Kaka led the break down the left, played in Guti and the veteran midfielder backheeled (assist of the season?) for Karim Benzema to tap into an empty net. With three minutes remaining Riki pulled one back from the penalty spot but in injury time Karim Benzema completed the win from an Arbeloa cross.

Sporting Gijon 0 – Barcelona 1 (La Liga, January 30, 2010) Gijon survived an early scare at home to Barca when Zlatan hit the post following a free-kick. Barca struck on the half hour when a fantastic through-ball from Iniesta freed Pedro Rodriguez in the inside left channel and the striker drilled the ball in the near post.

Espanyol 1 – Athletic Bilbao 0 (La Liga, January 30, 2010) Espanyol captain Luis Garcia drilled in a low cross from the left to Verdu early in the second half to earn his side a hard-fought victory against  Bilbao.
