Boca Juniors 3 – Tachira 0 (Copa Libertadores, April 30, 2009) Martin Palermo opened the scoring from the penalty spot and the big Boca number nine doubled the lead in the second half with a “golazo” of an overhead kick. Rodrigo Palacio completed the win with the third.
River Plate 3 – Deportivo San Martin 0 (Copa Libertadores, April 30, 2009) Gustavo Bou got the first with a great shot into the far corner. A penalty from Sambueza and a scrambled finish from Diego Barrado secured the victory.
Nacional 3 – Nacional Asuncion 1 (Copa Libertadores, April 30, 2009) Jorge Nunez put the hosts ahead after 8 minutes with a header, Diego Arismendi hit back for the Uruguayan club on the half hour mark after stabbing home the rebound. The home side took control in the second half, Sebastian Coates headed home in the 79th minute and Nicolas Lodeiro sealed the match with the third goal moments before time.
Guarani 1 – Deportivo Cuenca 1 (Copa Libertadores, April 30, 2009) Deportivo Cuenca qualified from second place despite failing to hold the lead provided by a Rodrigo Texeira header after 2 minutes against Guarani. The Paraguayan club equalised with an Osvaldo Diaz free-kick after 54 minutes.
Vasco da Gama 1 – Icasa 1 (Copa do Brasil, April 30, 2009) After just eight minutes Vasco were handed the lead as Icasa goalkeeper Ari sliced an attempted clearance off the post and agonisingly over the line.Marciano connected with Leozinho’s cross with 15 minutes remaining to snatch a crucial away goal for Icasa ahead of the second leg.
Goias 2 – Fluminense 2 (Copa do Brasil, April 30, 2009) Flu opened the scoring after just two minutes through Luiz Alberto but Rafael Toloi connected with Ze Carlos’ corner to pull Goias level. A header from former Lyon midfielder Fred regained the lead for Flu in the last minute of the first half but in the second half Felipe Menezes pulled Goias again back on level terms.
