Everton beat high-flying Lanus in the Copa Libertadores

Lanus 1 – Everton 2 (Copa Libertadores, March 17, 2009) Lanus took the lead when Santiago Biglieri was on hand to score after striker Jose Sand had his penalty saved by Everton keeper Dalsasso. Roberto Gutierrez levelled with a searing left-footed drive following a clinical counter-attack by the visitors before an injury time winner by Jose Munoz gave Everton the points.

Deportivo Cuenca 3 – Deportivo Tachira 1 (Copa Libertadores, March 17, 2009) Jose Granda took advantage of slack marking at a quickly taken short corner to rifle a deflected shot for the hosts. Rodrigo Teixeira doubled the lead before the break with Teixeira grabbing his second after the interval when the Tachira keeper made a mess of a long shot from Matamoros. A Javier Villafraz free-kick in the 76th minute was scant consolation for Tachira.

Independiente Medellin 0 – America de Cali 0 (Copa Libertadores, March 17, 2009) Medellin and America de Cali held each other to a disappointing goalless draw, a result that helps neither side in their Copa Libertadores campaign.
