Copa Sudamericana: Palmeiras suffer from some terrible refereeing decisions

River Plate 1 – Guadalajara (Chivas) 2 (Copa Sudamericana, October 22, 2008) Chivas scored through Omar Arellano and Fabian de la Mora to down River Plate, whose sole goal came via Sebastien Abreu.

Internacional 2 – Boca Juniors 0 (Copa Sudamericana, October 22, 2008) Alex scored twice in the second half.

Palmeiras 0 – Argentinos Jrs 1 (Copa Sudamericana, October 22, 2008) Palmeiras suffered from some disgraceful refereeing decisions to lose the game with only nine men on the pitch. In the 17th minute, Lima’s free-kick bounced over the line via the underside of the Argentinos crossbar but the goal was not credited. Then, the hosts won a penalty early in the second half. Diego Souza converted but the goal was disallowed for a pause in the run-up, with the second attempt expertly saved by the keeper. Escudero put the Argentines ahead in the 66th minute, and Palmeiras lost their head, losing Evandro and Gladstone as the game descended into farce.
