Colo Colo beat Santos 3-2; Internacional hit four; Cruzeiro score six; Emelec edge Jaguares

Colo Colo 3 – Santos 2 (Copa Libertadores, March 16, 2011) Elano put Santos ahead with a swerving free kick that deceived Colo Colo’s keeper Juan Castillo. The Chileans hit back with three goals in 17 minutes from Esteban Paredes, Ezequiel Miralles and Andres Scotti. Neymar gave Santos hope with his side’s second goal four minutes into the second half but they could not find an equaliser.

Jorge Wilstermann 1 – Internacional 4 (Copa Libertadores, March 16, 2011) Inter settled the match in the opening 24 minutes after Wilstermann took an eighth-minute lead when their Argentine defender Juan Ignacio Brown headed home a free kick. Brown then headed the Brazilian side’s equaliser with an own goal trying to clear a cross and forwards Leandro Damiao and Ze Roberto put the game beyond Wilsterman with Kleber adding a late fourth.

Emelec 1 – Jaguares 0 (Copa Libertadores, March 16, 2011) A 54th minute penalty by Mario Quiroz proved decisive for the Ecuadorians.

Cruzeiro 6 – Tolima 1 (Copa Libertadores, March 16, 2011) Walter Montillo put the hosts ahead in the fourth minute and Wallyson capitalised on a mistake by defender Wilmer Diaz to double their lead in the 31st minute. Wallyson then turned provider for Roger to fire home a third goal on the counter-attack just after the hour. Christian Marrugo reduced the deficit for Tolima seven minutes later, but Roger soon restored the home team’s three-goal cushion with a 71st minute penalty. Tolima defender Julian Hurtado was sent off in the closing minutes before Gilberto and Thiago Ribeiro sealed the rout.
