All Boys return to Argentina top flight for 1st time in 30 years; Gimnasia stay up

Rosario Central 0 – All Boys 3 (Agg. 1-4) (Argentina relegation play-offs, May 23, 2010) All Boys could not have wished for a better start as Marcelo Vieytes put them in front less than ten minutes into the second leg. A further goal from Mariano Campodonico meant they held a 2-0 advantage at the interval. The game was sown up 25 minutes from time when Cristian Vella grabbed All Boys third of the match as the minnows returned to the top flight for the first time in 30 years.

Gimnasia La Plata 3 – Atletico Rafaela 1 (Agg. 3-2) (Argentina relegation play-offs, May 23, 2010) A brace of first half goals from Gimnasia’s striker Marco Perez (the second a brilliant free-kick) put the team from La Plata in charge at the interval, although Oscar Carniello did manage to get one for Atletico Rafaela in the first period. As Rafaela pressed for another goal Gimnasia’s Alvaro Ormeno was given all the room he needed to round the goalkeeper and secure his side’s place in Argentina’s top flight.
