Greece U21 1 – England U21 1 (European U21 Championship Qualifiers, September 8, 2009) The Young Lions got off to a flyer in Greece as Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge tapped in from close-range after Tottenham’s Danny Rose intercepted possession and took on the home defence. The Greeks levelled just before the break as Sotiris Ninis saw his shot deflect into the net.

Italy U21 2 – Luxembourg U21 0 (European U21 Championship Qualifiers, September 8, 2009) Sampdoria’s Andrea Poli headed home the first from close range, (Super) Mario Balotelli completed the win in the 90th minute.

France U21 2 – Ukraine U21 2 (European U21 Championship Qualifiers, September 8, 2009) Anthony Modeste put France ahead and Mamadou Sakho doubled the lead with a header. The Ukranian side came back into the the match with two replica goals from Volodymyr Chesnakov who followed up on two free kicks to finish from close range.

Andorra U21 0 – Russia U21 4 (European U21 Championship Qualifiers, September 8, 2009) The first goal from Igor Gorbatenko was an incredible lob from inside the Russian half.

Rosario Central 2 – River Plate 1 (Argentinean Apertura, September 8, 2009) Guillermo Burdisso headed home the opener from a corner in the 16th minute. The home side doubled their lead seven minutes after the break through Gonzalo Castillejos. A deflected effort from Mauro Diaz was a consolation for River and a player from each side was sent off late on.
