Leverkusen hit leaders Hoffenheim for four

Hoffenheim 1 – Bayer Leverkusen 4 (Bundesliga, February 13, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Leverkusen set the tone with an early goal after just three minutes through Patrick Helmes. Ten minutes later it was 0-2, Simon Rolfes eventually putting the ball over the line after Hoffenheim failed to clear a Barnetta free-kick. A Sejad Salihovic penalty on the half hour did raise Hoffenheim’s hopes, but they were quickly snuffed out by Bayer’s third before the break with Helmes’ completing his brace. Bayer killed match early in the second half, a Barnetta corner was turned home by Gonzalo Castro.

Queensland Roar 2 – Central Coast Mariners 1 (Agg. 4-1) (A-League Playoffs, February 13, 2009) Mitch Nichols and Matt Mckay scored to hand Queensland a 2-nil lead just after halftime. Nik Mrdja pulled a goal back for the Mariners just after the hour mark but it proved too little too late.
