Serie A goals: Juventus suffer set back against Cagliari; Quagliarella’s volley hands Udinese a point at Napoli

Juventus 2 – Cagliari 3 (Serie A, January 31, 2009) The Old Lady was breached after 15 minutes, Cagliari’s Davide Biondini converted a back post header with a perfectly timed run. But Juve were soon on level terms, Momo Sissoko rising high to head the Bianconeri level from Nedved’s pacey corner. Pavel Nedved then rolled back the years to send Juve into the break 2-1 up. Cagliari stunned Juve by levelling in controversial circumstances in the second half, Jeda was positioned in an offside position, supposedly not affecting the play, only to then end up finishing the move to make it all-square. And Cagilari shocked the Turin giants by going on the claim all three points, Alessandro Matri’s superb winner seriously denting Ranieri’s title challenge.

Napoli 2 – Udinese 2 (Serie A, January 31, 2009) German Denis teed up Ezequiel Lavezzi for Napoli’s opener against Udinese. Napoli then pulled further clear when Marek Hamsik added a second, but Udinese fought back to go into the break level. Antonio di Natale pulled a goal from the spot before Fabio Quagliarella produced another goal to go into his scrapbook of wonder-strikes, equalising with a lightning volley hit from 25-yards out.

Treviso 3 – Brescia 2 (Serie B, January 31, 2009) Zigoni got Treviso off to a perfect start with his goal after 30 seconds, but Taddei and Rispoli turned it around before half-time. Late on Brescia lost their bearings, as a Gissi blockbuster and Musetti late winner sealed the five-goal thriller.

Parma 3 – Albinoleffe 1 (Serie B, January 31, 2009) Troest held up the ball for Paloschi to score, then Madonna equalised for Leffe with his fierce strike from 25-yards. Budel and an Alessandro Lucarelli header from a corner eventually secured the Gialloblu’s victory.

Empoli 2 – Vicenza 0 (Serie B, January 31, 2009) Fortin’s fresh-air intervention on a corner allowed Pozzi to nod in, then Corvia sealed it in the final minutes.

Avellino 1 – Triestina 2 (Serie B, January 31, 2009) Granoche’s shot ricocheted off the upright into the path of Tabbiani for the opener, then Princivalli’s left-foot strike silenced the home side. Pecorari’s header was too late to overturn the situation at Avellino.

Bari 2 – Frosinone 1 (Serie B, January 31, 2009) Bari extended their advantage at the top of the table, but had to fight back from a goal down after conceding Cavalli’s diving header. Within 120 seconds Lanzafame had equalised while Caputo completed the comeback with a deflected strike late on.

Piacenza 2 – Grosseto 3 (Serie B, January 31, 2009)
