Inter Milan 1 – Sampdoria 0 (Serie A, January 25, 2009) Inter went 1-up on the stroke of halftime with Sampdoria, Maicon broke down the right, beat his man and played an inch-perfect cross to Adriano and the back post to score.
Bologna 1 – AC Milan 4 (Serie A, January 25, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Marco di Vaio fired Bologna (undefeated in 7 games matches under new manager Sinisa Mihajlovic) ahead from the spot. But Milan quickly turned the game around, Clarence Seedorf equalising with a rebound and Kaka slotting the Rossoneri in front with a penalty of their own. Kaka completed the half with a super third, curling the ball past Antonioli’s outstretched hand. (First half highlights here.) David Beckham broke his duck in Italy after the break, crashing home a smart shot in the near post as Milan ran riot.
Napoli 0 – Roma 3 (Serie A, January 25, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Roma took the advantage thanks to Philippe Mexes’ storming header from a free-kick. The Giallorossi doubled their lead in replica circumstances, this time fellow centre-half Juan was the scorer from a corner. Mirko Vucinic added a third after the break.
Lazio 1 – Calgiari 4 (Serie A, January 25, 2009) Lazio came flying out the traps against Cagliari, Tommaso Rocchi scoring after just three minutes. But the lead was short-lived, two minutes later Neves Jeda scored a bullet header to bring the visitors level. Four minutes later Calgiari were ahead, Neves Jeda nodding in his second goal of the match as the home defence were all-at-sea. And rubbing salt in the open wound, Robert Acquafresca struck in a third from the spot as Lazio collapsed. Lazio’s nightmare 45 ended when Alessandro Matri headed in a fourth. Lecce 3 – Torino 3 (Serie A, January 25, 2009) Gianni Munari blasted Lecce in front against Torino with a stunning drive that ripped into the net across the keeper. Munari headed in a second on the stroke of halftime. (First half highlights here.) Samuel’s glancing header gave Torino hope after the break, and they soon level thanks to Dellafiore bagging a second.
Siena 1 – Atalanta 0 (Serie A, January 25, 2009) For the second week running Mario Frick got on the scoresheet for Siena.
Palermo 3 – Udinese 2 (Serie A, January 25, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Palermo went ahead in the second minute when Simone Pepe crashed home a 25-yard free-kick. Fabio Simplicio levelled after 17 minutes before Udinese wasted the chance to reclaim the lead, Fabio Quagliarella hitting the bar from the penalty spot. (First half highlights here.) The visitors were made to pay as Simplicio put Palermo ahead and then Edinson Cavani made it 3-1. Antonio di Natale pulled one back but Udinese could not find the equaliser.
