Young Lions make mistakes in home defeat to Greece; Oliver Norwood (Manchester United) bags a brace for Northern Ireland

England 1 – Greece 2 (U21 European Championship qualifier, March 3, 2010) England’s Young Lions fell behind in Greece midway through the first half when slack marking from a corner allowed Papadopoulos Kyriakos to bundle the ball over the line. More poor defending from England gifted Papadopoulos Ioannis a second at the start of the second half, Aston Villa striker Nathan Delfouneso netting a consolation at the death.

Georgia 2 – Estonia 0 (U21 European Championship qualifier, March 3, 2010) Revad Barabadze scored the opener and the second was claimed late on by Spartak Moscow starlet Zhano Ananidze.

Spain 3 – Liechtenstein 1 (U21 European Championship qualifier, March 2, 2010) Getafe’s Dani Parejo opened the scoring with a wonderful free-kick from 30-yards. Burak Eris pulled the visitors level, before Adrian and a Diego Capel penalty earned Spain the three points.

San Marino 0 – Northern Ireland 3 (U21 European Championship qualifier, March 2, 2010) Manchester United midfielder Oliver Norwood put the visitors ahead on 24 minutes and Port Vale’s James Lawrie doubled the lead 14 minutes later. Norwood sealed the points for Steve Beaglehole’s team with the third after 78 minutes.
