Hamburg late late show denies mangerless Wolfsburg; Norwegian & Swedish champs draw in pre-season friendly

Hamburg 1 – Wolfsburg 1 (Bundesliga, January 29, 2010) Mangerless Wolfsburg upset the form book to take the lead at Hamburg, super Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko showed his class controlling the ball in attack on his chest, shifting the ball past his defender with his right, and curling a beauty with his left. Hamburg broke the visitors hearts by scoring with the last kick of the game, Per Trochowski curling home a brilliant free-kick two minutes into injury time.

Braga 1 – Sporting Lisbon 0 (Superliga, January 29, 2010) Braga made a big statement in their quest to win the Portuguese league beating fourth-place Sporting, a fantastic solo goal from Paulo Cesar saw the forward cut in from the left wing and drill a home a deflected shot to claim the three points for the league leaders.

Willem II 2 – RKC Waalwijk 1 (Eredivisie, January 29, 2010) Stefan Nijland fired Willem II in the lead midway through the first half, but RKC weren’t behind for long as Fred Benson equalised six minutes later.  The relegation battle saw the home side come out on top as they grabbed all three points thanks to Sergio Ziljer’s late goal.

Germinal Beerschot 0 – Anderlecht 5 (Jupiler League, January 29, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) Anderlecht won at a canter at Germinal, with teenage sensation Romelu Lukaku helping himself to a brace in the victory for the league leaders. Kanu and Jonathan Legear also netted, while Mbark Boussoufa scored the goal of the game with a scissor-kick into the far corner.

Gold Coast United FC 1 – Melbourne Victory 0 (A-League, January 29, 2010) Zenan Caravella’s goal 14 minutes before the end was enough to secure a deserved win for the hosts, who are now unbeaten in seven games at home.

Estudiantes 3 – Arsenal Sarandi 0 (Clausura, January 29, 2010) Marcelo Carrusca deflected a low Rodriguez cross at the back post to open the scoring for Estudiantes in the 41st minute. Marco Boselli notched the second in the 66th, rounding Arsenal keeper Campestrini and rolling into an empty net. Campestrini spilled a long-range shot shortly after and compounded the error by tripping Boselli in the box and the forward made no mistake with his spot-kick for number three.

Godoy Cruz 1 – Gimnasia La Plata 0 (Clausura, January 29, 2010) Second half substitute Federico Higuain forced a shot past goalkeeper Gaston Sessa in the 71st to give Godoy Cruz the win.

Rosenborg 1 – AIK Stockholm 1 (Friendly, January 29, 2010) 20-year-old striker Kjell Rune Sellin needed two minutes to score against AIK, the forward converting a cross from the right. AIK levelled after the break, Kenny Pavey thudding the ball over the line from a scrappy corner.
