Leverkusen draw at Werder but go back to the top; Schalke slip up at Wolfsburg; Hertha win big at Freiburg

Werder Bremen 2 – Bayer Leverkusen 2 (Bundesliga, February 21, 2010)Eren Derdiyok gave Bayer the lead on 29 minutes only for Claudio Pizarro to draw Bremen level four minutes later. Toni Kroos restored the lead for the visitors on 57 minutes and that looked like being enough for Bayer until big defender Per Mertesacker popped up with an injury-time leveller.

Wolfsburg 2 – Schalke 1 (Bundesliga, February 21, 2010) Third-place Schalke took the lead through Kevin Kuranyi on the half hour mark, but in the 71st minute Grafite headed the equaliser for Wolfsburg. And it was Grafite who scored the winner six minutes from time.

Freiburg 0 – Hertha Berlin 3 (Bundesliga, February 21, 2010) Hertha Berlin gave their Bundesliga survival hopes a huge lift with a convincing defeat of one of their relegation rivals. Adrian Gustavo opened the scoring before two goals from Cicero gave Friedhelm Funkel’s bottom of the table team a morale-boosting victory – only their third of the season.

Mainz 0 – Bochum 0 (Bundesliga, February 20, 2010) The sides cancelled each other out in a drab affair at the Stadion am Bruchweg but the visitors will be the happier after the point carried them up to 12th, nine points off the drop. Mainz remain in eighth.

Hamburg 0 – Eintracht Frankfurt 0 (Bundesliga, February 20, 2010) Hamburg failed to follow up their Europa League victory over PSV Eindhoven with another win in the Bundesliga as they maintained their unwanted record as Germany’s draw specialists, being held 0-0 at home to Frankfurt.
