DFB Pokal: Rampant Bayern Munich crash five past Oberhausen; Away day win for Schalke at Bochum

Bayern Munich 5 – Oberhausen 0 (DFB Pokal, September 22, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Bayern needed 32 minutes to break the deadlock with Oberhausen, Philip Lahm seeing his right wing cross deflect off of defender Daniel Embers into his own near post. From right-back, Lahm also orchestrated the second goal in the 41st minute, the defender racing into the box with Mario Gomez benefitting with a simple header on the line. Bayern pressed home their advantage in the latter stages, Daniel van Buyten continued his rich goalscoring purple patch adding number three before upstart Thomas Muller chalked up the fourth just three minutes later. Daniel van Buyten (four goals in three games) closed out the match with a fifth.

Bochum 0 – Schalke 3 (DFB Pokal, September 22, 2009) An early near post header from Heiko Westermann put Schalke in the lead against Bochum. Ten minutes into the second half the visitors broke down the right hand side and when the ball made it into the box Halil Altintop slotted home number two. A disappointing own goal from Christian Fuchs 15 minutes from time sealed Bochum’s fate.
