Gael Danic put Valenciennes in a 21st minute lead from the spot, but Bordeaux levelled through Fernando’s header in the 38th minute. Yohann Gourcuff, Bordeaux’s talisman in recent weeks, eanred the visitors the three points with a diving header (5th goal in 3 games) to claim a vital win for Laurent Blanc’s charges.
Nice 0 – Marseille 2 (Ligue 1, May 13, 2009) Top of the table OM took the lead at Nice with a fine individual goal from Mamadou Niang who worked himself space on the edge of the area before finding the bottom corner. With Nice looking capable of coming back in the game Marseille grabbed a killer second on the hour, a break-away lead by Ben Afra saw Taiwo swing in a beautiful cross that Brandao powered home.
Sochaux 3 – Monaco 0 (Ligue 1, May 13, 2009) Marvin Martin made the breakthrough in the 19th minute before Francois Modesto doubled Sochaux’s advantage early in the second half. Vaclav Sverkos then fired in a third after 70 minutes to lift Sochaux two points clear of the drop zone.
Le Havre 2 – St. Etienne 4 (Ligue 1, May 13, 2009) Le Havre will be playing in the second tier of French football next season after their relegation was confirmed following defeat to fellow strugglers St Etienne. St Etienne took the lead through Araujo Ilan on four minutes but Le Havre came storming back with goals from Mamadou Diallo (12) and Massamba Sambou (18). Moustapha Bayal equalised after 46 minutes and Kevin Mirallas then put ASSE 3-2 ahead in the 69th minute. Emmanuel Riviere then struck again in the dying stages to take St. Etienne out of the bottom three.
Rennes 1 – Caen 0 (Ligue 1, May 13, 2009) Petter Hasson grabbed the winner on the hour mark.
Toulouse 0 – Lille 0 (Ligue 1, May 13, 2009) Toulouse and Lille both saw their European hopes take a knock as they fought out a scoreless draw.
