Ligue 1: Lyon sink Nancy; St. Etienne get off the mark against pointless Grenoble; Wins for Sochaux, Montpellier & Lorient

Lyon 3 – Nancy 1 (Ligue 1, August 29, 2009) Bafetimbi Gomis put the home team in front in the 38th minute before Argentina striker Lisandro Lopez made it 2-nil in the 50th. Nancy pulled one back through Youssouf Hadji and the visitors were pushing hard for an equaliser when Michel Bastos struck a beauty in the 68th minute.

Sochaux 1 – Monaco 0 (Ligue 1, August 29, 2009) Vaclav Sverkos scored the crucial goal when he slotted home a penalty after 23 minutes.

Nice 0 – Montpellier 3 (Ligue 1, August 29, 2009) Geoffrey Dernis broke the deadlock after just four minutes and Victor Montano and Lilian Compan also found the target in the second half.

St. Etienne 1 – Grenoble 0 (Ligue 1, August 29, 2009) St Etienne picked up their first win of the season against fellow strugglers Grenoble, Christophe Landrin netting the only goal of the contest on 23 minutes.

Lens 2 – Rennes 2 (Ligue 1, August 29, 2009) Both sides then had a player dismissed early in the second half as Marco Ramos of Lens and Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila were given their marching orders. Lens looked set to clinch all three points when Issam Jemaa struck on 72 minutes but a last-gasp leveller from Asamoah Gyan rescued Rennes.

Lorient 1 – Le Mans 0 (Ligue 1, August 29, 2009) Lorient beat Le Mans 1-0 thanks to an effort from Marama Vahirua midway through the second half.

Boulogne 0 – Auxerre 0 (Ligue 1, August 29, 2009)
