Feyenoord crash at Heerenveen; Anderlecht suffer shock defeat to Cercle Brugge

Heerenveen 3 – Feyenoord 1 (Eredivisie, January 16, 2009) After Kristian Bak Nielsen’s 4th minute opener, Roy Makaay briefly restored parity for the visitors seven minutes before half-time, but Danijel Pranjic put Heerenveen’s noses in front for a second time two minutes before half-time. Arnor Smarason made the game safe for Heerenveen in the 71st minute.

Anderlecht 1 – Cercle Brugge 2 (Jupiler League, January 16, 2009) Having been dumped out of the cup in midweek, league leaders Anderlecht suffered yet more disappointed in a surprise home defeat. Oleg Iachtchouk put Brugge in the lead inside 60 seconds, before Guillaume Gillet drew the hosts level in the 23rd minute. The winner arrived just before the hour mark as Iachtchouck scored his second of the night. (Last two goals here.)
