Tottenham 3 – Hull City 0 (Barclays Asia Trophy, July 31, 2009) Harry Redknapp claimed this trophy for the second season in succession after a dominant display from Spurs. Luka Modric’s raking pass was finished by Robbie Keane for the opener just after the quarter hour. Keane fired home a penalty to double the lead midway through the second half and Aaron Lennon finished off the match late on following a fine cross from Naughton. Post match celebrations here.

West Ham 2 – Beijing Guoan 0 (Barclays Asia Trophy, July 31, 2009) Late strikes from Danny Gabbidon and youngster Zavon Hines spared West Ham’s blushes in Beijing.

Aston Villa 2 – FC Porto 1 (Peace Cup, July 31, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) First half goals by Emile Heskey and Steve Sidwell were enough to send the Liga Sagres side packing after having made it through the group stage unscathed. Hulk scored in added time for Porto, but by then it had come a little too late.

Vitoria Guimaraes 2 – Portsmouth 0 (Pens. 4-3) (Friendly, July 31, 2009) Portsmouth lost to Guimaraes in Portugal, striker Rui Miguel found the net ten minutes into the second half before Custodio headed home a second late on.
