Feyenoord beat Twente to reach the cup final; Porto & Panathinaikos get one foot in their cup finals

Feyenoord 2 – FC Twente 1 (KNVB Beker, March 24, 2010) Steve McClaren’s team went ahead three minutes from the interval when Bryan Ruiz found his way through the Rotterdam defence after sloppy defending by Wijnaldum. Feyenoord hit back when a combination between Makaay and Denny Landzaat gave skipper Van Bronckhorst the chance to equalise eight minutes into the second half. From that moment the match flared up and seven minutes before time Leroy Fer set up Makaay to fire Feyenoord into the cup final.

Rio Ave 1 – FC Porto 3 (Taca de Portugal semi-final first leg,, March 24, 2010) The defending league champions started well with Ruben scoring the opener on 20 minutes, but Bruno Moraes equalised 17 minutes later. The visitors did take distance in the second half. Raul Meireles netted his side’s second in the 54th minute and Colombian Fredy Guarin made it 1-3 in the 76th.

Panathinaikos 3 – Pas Giannina 1 (Greek Cup semi-final first leg, March 24, 2010) Pana put one  foot in the final with a convincing home win courtesy of an own goal from Elias Kotsios and Sotiris Ninis’ strike in the first half, while serial goalscorer Djibril Cisse sealed the win at the death. Pas grabbed a lifeline though in injury time when Georgios Kousas bagged a crucial away goal.

Fenerbahce 2 – Manisaspor 0 (Turkish Cup, March 24, 2010) First half goals from in-form Dani Guiza and his strike-partner David de Souza proved enough for Fener.

Metalurg Donetsk 2 – Shakhtar Donetsk 1 (Ukrainian Cup, March 24, 2010) Metallurg stunned Shakhtar in the opening 10 minute of their cup tie when Musawengosi Mguni and Velizar Dimitrov handed the hosts an earlier 2-goal lead. Fernandinho netted for Shakhtar in injury time at the end of the match.
