AZ Alkmaar 6 – RKC 2 (Eredivisie, March 13, 2010) Mounir El Hamdaoui set the ball rolling after just 38 seconds and while RKC equalised through Benjamin De Ceulaer the game was beyond doubt at half-time as AZ opened a 4-1 lead. Goals from Moussa Dembele, Hector Moreno and a second from Hamdaoui had done the damage before the break after which Jermanie Lens was also on target and Hamdaoui completed his treble. Derk Boerrigter grabbed a consolation goal for RKC with a superb free-kick in stoppage time.

NAC 0 – Groningen 3 (Eredivisie, March 13, 2010) Femi Ajilore did the damage with goals in the 31st and 45th minutes, leaving NAC with an uphill task in the second half. It got worse for the hosts, though, as Koen van de Laak added a third 10 minutes from time and Donny Gorter was dismissed four minutes later to add insult to injury.

VVV Venlo 0 – Utrecht 1 (Eredivisie, March 13, 2010) Utrecht kept themselves firmly in the race for a place in the Europa League play-offs thanks to Jacob Lensky’s goal against VVV.

NEC 0 – Roda 2 (Eredivisie, March 13, 2010) Willem Janssen and Mads Junker scored against the run of play in either half as Roda pulled four points ahead of their opponents in the Eredivisie table.

Braga 1 – Rio Ave 0 (Liga Sagres, March 13, 2010) Andres Madrid scored in the 16th minute to extend Braga’s unbeaten home record in the league. It was the first time the team has beaten Rio Ave in three attempts this season.

Academica 1 – FC Porto 2 (Liga Sagres, March 13, 2010) Porto came back from behind to beat Academica. Modou Sougou put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute, but Bruno Alves equalised three minutes later and Cristian Rodriguez netted the winner with three minutes left in regular time.

Samara 0 – Zenit St. Petersburg 1 (Russian Premier League, March 13, 2010) Luciano Spalletti opened his tenure as the new Zenit manager with an opening round win at Samara, Portuguese playmaker Danny scoring a fine solo goal in the 66th minute as he picked up the ball in his own half, raced 60-yard upfield and calmly finishing in the box.

Rostov 0 – Tomsk 2 (Russian Premier League, March 13, 2010) Sergey Kornilenko scored the game-winning goal midway through the second half and added another one in the dying minutes of the game.

Olympiakos 2 – Pas Gianina 2 (Greek Super League, March 13, 2010) Olympiakos was held to a 2-2 draw Saturday after scoring two own goals against relegation-threatened Giannena, falling further behind in the Greek league title race. Defenders Avraam Papadopoulos and Olof Mellberg both deflected shots into their own net to cancel out goals by Matt Derbyshire and Lomana LuaLua.

AEK Athens 3 – Kavala 0 (Greek Super League, March 13, 2010) Fourth-placed AEK Athens eased to a 3-0 home win over Kavala. Ismael Blanco’s first-half penalty set them on their way and full-back Sanel Jahic and substitute Gustavo Manduca struck after the interval.

Atromitos 2 – Iraklis 1 (Greek Super League, March 13, 2010) First half goals from Thanassis Karagounis and Marek Saganowski earned the hosts victory. Grigoris Papazacharias replied for the visitors.

Genclerbirligi 0 – Fenerbahce 0 (Super Lig, March 13, 2010) Fener remain a point behind Galatasaray at the top of the Turkish league after they were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw.
