Everton 4 – Sigma Olomouc 0 (Europa League, August 20, 2009) After scoring in the 6-1 defeat by Arsenal, it was Louis Saha who got the Toffees off the mark, flicking home a Fellaini cross. Jack Rodwell made it 2-0 before the break with a left-footed strike that went through a sea of bodies. Rodwell added the third after the break with a cracking long-range drive and Saha added the fourth with a left-footed finish.

Dinamo Zagreb 4 – Hearts 0 (Europa League, August 20, 2009) Dinamo Zagreb took a two-goal lead into the break against Hearts, Milan Mandzukic and Papadopoulos were on the scoresheet – both first-half goals here.
