VIDEO: Arsenal turnover Standard from 2-down; Liverpool edge Debrecen

Standard Liege 2 – Arsenal 3 (Champions League, September 16, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Arsenal was caught like a rabbit in the headlights in the opening minutes in Liege. From a third minute corner Eduardo foolishly backheeled a loose ball on the edge of his own box and Eliaquim Mangala scored from 18-yards out. And then came a hammer blow as Milan Jovanovic was clipped in the box by Gallas, the ref pointed to the spot and Jovanovic forced Mannone to pick the ball out of his net for the second time inside five hectic minutes. On the stroke of halftime Arsenal pulled themselves back into the match as Diaby fed Nicklas Bendtner in the box and the Dane found the far bottom corner with a low drive. In the 73rd Arsenal equalised, Cesc’s floated free-kick found Song (offside & handball) at the back-post and Thomas Vermaelen was able to stab the ball over the line. And then Arsenal took the lead as Eduardo converted a corner from the left to leave Standard broken.
