Liverpool 1 – Chelsea 3 (Champions League, April 8, 2009) (Longer highlights here and extended highlights here.) Fernando Torres put Liverpool in front but that was as good as it got for the Reds as Chelsea took command of the tie. Branislav Ivanovic was the unlikely hero heading in corners either side of half-time, the first on 39 minutes taken by Malouda and the second on 62 taken by Lampard. Didier Drogba confirmed a stunning victory from a Malouda cross.

Barcelona 4 – Bayern Munich 0 (Champions League, April 8, 2009) (Longer highlights here and extended highlights here.) Barca turned on the style and were 4-up at half time. Lionel Messi scored the first on nine minutes with an easy side foot finish, Samuel Eto’o doubled the lead three minutes later after great work from Messi. Henry set up Messi for the third and then Thierry Henry passed into the far corner for the fourth before the break.
