VIDEO: Violence mars Hammers win over Millwall in the Carling Cup; Leeds upset Watford to progress; QPR edge Accrington

West Ham 3 – Millwall 1 (AET) (Carling Cup, August 25, 2009) A disgraceful evening at Upton Park saw both sets of fans repeatedly shame themselves in violent and unsavoury scenes reminiscent of the bad days of English football. Neil Harris had given the Lions the lead but Junior Stanislas’ equaliser that sent the tie into extra-time sparked ugly scenes as supporters poured over the advertising hoardings. Stanislas added another from the penalty spot, leading to Millwall players heading for the dressing room, before play got under way again and Zavon Hines added a third to seal victory at the end of a poisonous evening of hostility.

Leeds 2 – Watford 1 (AET) (Carling Cup, August 25, 2009) Robert Snodgrass scored a double including an extra-time winner as League One Leeds pulled off a minor upset with a 2-1 win over Watford at Elland Road.

QPR 2 – Accrington 1 (Carling Cup, August 25, 2009) Goals from Hogan Ephraim and Wayne Routledge eased the pressure on QPR manager Jim Magilton as Accrington, who scored late on through Michael Symes, bowed out of the Carling Cup.
