Manchester United 3 – Manchester City 1 (Agg. 4-3) (Carling Cup semi-final second leg, January 27, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) After a first half (highlights here) which had seen both Shay Given and Edwin van der Sar called into action, the first major action of the second half saw Craig Bellamy get struck by a coin thrown from the Old Trafford crowd. Almost immediately after that incident Paul Scholes fizzed a shot past Given to give United the lead on the night. Michael Carrick doubled the lead with twenty minutes to go. Five minutes later, and just moments after Wayne Rooney had missed a sitter, Carlos Tevez pulled the tie level with his third goal in the two semi final matches. In injury time, seconds after Shay Given had made a stunning save from Fletcher, Giggs curled in a cross for Wayne Rooney to win the tie and send Manchester United to Wembley.
