Barnsley 0 – Manchester United 2 (Carling Cup, October 27, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) A simple header from Danny Welbeck from an Anderson corner after just six minutes put Manchester United in the lead at Barnsley. (First half highlights here.) On the hour Little Mickey scored a classy second for United, the striker slickly beating his marker before drilling a low shot into the bottom corner. Gary Neville then got himself sent off for a studs-up challenge on Tykes’ winger Adam Hammill.
Tottenham 2 – Everton 0 (Carling Cup, October 27, 2009) Tom Huddlestone claimed the first with a powerful left foot finish in the first-half. Early in the second-half Spurs claimed their place in the quarter-finals with Robbie Keane volleying home after Howard had saved a penalty from the Irishman as well as follow-ups from Bale and Bentley. Bristol Rovers 0 – Leeds 4 (League One, October 27, 2009) The home side lost their fourth successive match, goalscorers for Leeds were Jermaine Beckford (2), Sam Vokes and Tresor Kandol.
Arka Gdynia 2 – West Ham 2 (Friendly, October 27, 2009) 19-year-old Terry Dixon fired West Ham into the lead in Poland, the striker burying a shot in the Arka net following a 19th minute free-kick. 19-year-old Swiss left-back Fabio Daprela doubled the Londoners lead after 64 minutes, before Filip Burkhardt scored for the Poles to give the hosts hope of a comeback. With three minutes remaining Bartosz Lawa grabbed an equaliser for Arka.
