VIDEO: Nani & Rooney star in United win at Arsenal; Flat Man City beat Pompey; Manchester United’s Diouf scores another brace in the reserves

Arsenal 1 – Manchester United 3 (Premier League, January 31, 2010) (Longer highlights here and extended highlights here & MOTD highlights here.) Following a cagey opening half hour Nani put Manchester United in front when he brilliantly beat three men with a jinking round down the right and saw his mishit cross palmed in by Almunia. Four minutes after the opener, United broke in a flash and Nani played in Wayne Rooney who swept the ball home for the second. Seven minutes into the second half Ji-Sung Park looked to have wrapped up the victory with an easy finish after Carrick had played him in over the top. Thomas Vermaelen pulled one back for the Gunners with ten minutes remaining with an acrobatic effort that deflected off Evans.

Nani’s post match interview can be seen here, Park’s here, and Fergie’s interview can be seen here.

Manchester City 2 – Portsmouth 0 (Premier League, January 31, 2010) (MOTD highlights here.) After dominating the first half but surviving a scare when Pompey struck the bar, Manchester City struck five minutes from the break when Ireland floated a ball over the top to Emmanuel Adebayor and the returning striker controlled and thundered home a half volley. All too easily the Citizens grabbed a second on the stroke of halftime as Vincent Kompany had a mockery of Ben Haim’s marking to power home a corner.
