Birmingham 1 – Liverpool 1 (Premier League, April 4, 2010) (MOTD highlights here.) After a truly forgettable first half at St Andrews, Liverpool took less than two minutes to score at the start of the second as Johnson’s horribly miscued shot fell to Steven Gerrard on the left of the box and the Reds captain fired through a busy Birmingham box to see his shot nestle in the far corner. Birmingham were back level pegging in the 56th minute when McFadden spotted Liam Ridgewell free as a bird as the back stick and the centre-half bundled the ball past Riena. With Liverpool looking for a winner Rafa Benitez took off Torres for Ngog but the Scousers failed to score again as their top four hopes too a serious knock.
Fulham 2 – Wigan 1 (Premier League, April 4, 2010) (MOTD highlights here.) Wigan took a deserved lead at Craven Cottage ten minutes from the break when Melchiot’s deep cross was headed back by Moreno and lashed home by the Latics much-maligned forward Jason Scotland. Fulham hit back after the break when Zoltan Gera fired in a low cross from the left that halftime sub Stefano Okaka bundled in at the near post. Once on level footing Fulham soon took the lead, Duff’s corner from the left was headed home by Brede Hangeland from six yards out.
Everton 2 – West Ham 2 (Premier League, April 4, 2010) (MOTD highlights here.) West Ham were only able to hold out for 24 minutes at Everton until Spector’s poor attempt to clear Baines’s cross only went as far as Tim Cahill, who headed back into the six-yard box for Diniyar Bilyaletdinov to nod past Rob Green. On the hour Manuel Da Costa equalised with a scrappy goal. Everton looked to have won it after Aiyegbeni Yakubu headed home a Baines cross with five minutes to go. Only for Ilan to secure a massive point for the Hammers in their relegation struggle with just 180 seconds left with a diving header off an excellent Faubert cross.
