VIDEO: Dempsey’s stunner not enough as Stoke edge Fulham in a 5-goal thriller

Stoke 3 – Fulham 2 (Premier League, January 5, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) Tuncay Sanli headed Stoke into the lead on 12 minutes from close range after Huth had won the initial header. Abdoulaye Faye claimed the second for the hosts, from a terrific whipped free-kick from Matty Etherington just after the half hour. Mamady Sidibe completed a great half for the Potters with the third goal on 37, his first goal for over a year. (First half highlights here.) A deflected effort from Damien Duff gave Fulham some hope just after the hour, and with five minutes remaining Clint Dempsey scored a wonder-goal out of nothing, controlling a long ball from the back, collecting a flick-on and unleashing a dipping 30-yard volley that flew past Simonsen to set up a tense finish.
