VIDEO: Chelsea charge back to top as Arsenal fire blanks at Villa; Donovan scores for Everton; Blackburn sink Wigan

Chelsea 3 – Birmingham 0 (Premier League, January 27, 2010) (MOTD highlights here.) It took Chelsea just five minutes to get their opener, Joe Cole produced a fine run and finish down the right, setting up Florent Malouda to head home. Just after the half hour, Frank Lampard doubled the lead with a fine low effort. Frank Lampard completed the win with his second in the final minute.

Aston Villa 0 – Arsenal 0 (Premier League, January 27, 2010) (Longer highlights here and MOTD highlights here.) Arsenal squandered a chance to stay neck-and-neck on points. Arsenal’s best chance came just before halftime at Villa Park when captain Cesc Fabregas hit the post when Brad Friedel was beaten. The bar also denied Arsenal in the second half when Andrei Arshavin’s shot was parried by Friedel and Tomas Rosicky’s shot came off the underside of the woodwork but did not cross the line.

Everton 2 – Sunderland 0 (Premier League, January 27, 2010) (MOTD highlights here.) Tim Cahill had headed Everton in front in the 6th minute and Landon Donovan, on a 10-week loan from Major League Soccer, scored in the 19th with a left-footed shot after being fed by Tim Cahill’s header.

Blackburn 2 – Wigan 1 (Premier League, January 27, 2010) Morten Gamst Pedersen opened the scoring with a screamer, Gary Caldwell equalised with his first goal for the Latics just before the hour mark but Niko Kalinic found the winner with 14 minutes remaining.
