Blackpool 3 – Cardiff 2 (Championship play-off final, May 22, 2010) Michael Chopra sent out an early warning to Blackpool in the second minute when he hit the bar, and the Cardiff striker made no mistake 8 minutes in when he drilled a low right footed shot into the far corner to put the Bluebirds in control. But in the 12th minute the Tangerines came roaring back into the match as their set-piece specialist Charlie Adam curled home a brilliant free-kick to level. Cardiff moved back in front in the 37th minute when Whittingham threaded a perfectly-weighed pass to Joe Ledley in the inside left channel and the young Welshman smoothly struck a first-time shot past Gilks. But a thrilling final ding-dong back in Blackpool’s favour within five minutes as, after Gary Taylor-Fletcher hit the post with a 20-yarder, Taylor-Fletcher then bundled home a headed equaliser after Cardiff failed to clear a corner. An insane opening 45 then had a final twist with Blackpool taking the lead, awful Cardiff defending allowed DJ Campbell to beat five players before sliding the ball to Brett Ormerod to toe-poke Holloway’s men into 3-2 ahead.
