It took just 16 minutes for United to equalise on aggregate at home to Derby, Nani produced a terrific strike from distance for the first goal of the night. Five minutes later the Red Devils took the lead overall through John O’Shea who had the freedom of Old Trafford to finish. Ten minutes before the break United all but booked their trip to Wembley as Carlos Tevez headed home from a Rafael cross. (First half chances here and here.) With 10 minutes remaining the Rams got a lifeline, Jonny Evans brought down Paul Green in the box and Giles Barnes tucked the spot-kick away. United went on the offensive and added a fourth, Tevez was fouled in the box and Cristiano Ronaldo struck in the penalty. But a frantic finish ended with Derby scoring a second, Giles Barnes curling home a wonderful 25-yard free-kick that gave Foster no chance.
