Spurs continue to rise up the league, Rovers are sinking fast; Zola gets a 1st away win for the Hammers at Sunderland

Tottenham 1 – Blackburn 0 (Premier League, November 23, 2008) (MOTD highlights here.) Tottenham started nervously, but after riding some early luck Olsson lost the ball to Aaron Lennon, the nippy winger sped down the right, picked out Roman Pavlyuchenko and the Russian confidently hit the back of the net. Spurs dominated the majority of the match thereafter, failing to get the second they deserved but holding on for another three points. (First half highlights here.)

Sunderland 0 – West Ham 1 (Premier League, November 23, 2008) West Ham made the breakthrough at the Stadium of Light midway through the first half, a Faubert free-kick was only partially cleared to Valon Behrami, who rifled a shot off Kenwyne Jones and past Fulop. With the Mackems resorting to speculative shots from Andy Reid, the Hammers should have been 2-up at the break, Bellamy broke, rounded the keeper and played in Behrami from four yards out with a virtually open net, only to see his shot rebound off the bar for one of the misses of the season. (First half highlights here.)

Leeds 4 – Hartlepool 1 (League One, November 22, 2008) Hot-shot Jermaine Beckford took just 15 minutes to open the scoring, glancing home Hughes’ cross. Hartlepool levelled through Joel Porter, but Leeds were back in front five minutes after the break when Fabian Delph shot low into the net from 12 yards. Luciano Becchio added the third before Beckford took his tally for the season up to 18.

Chester 0 – Aldershot 1 (League Two, November 22, 2008)
