St Gallen 0 – Liverpool 0 (Friendly, July 15, 2009) Rafa Benitez played two entirely different sides in each half, with Glen Johnson claiming his Reds’ debut while Yossi Benayoun impressed, almost winning the game with a swerving shot beaten away by keeper Reto Bolli in the final seconds. Youngster Dani Pacheco had twice wasted good opportunities, but St Gallen had the best openings. Moreno Costanzo had a goal chalked off for offside, Mario Caceres hit a post in the first half, while veteran striker Mario Frick planted an unopposed header wide from eight yards out in the second half.

Harry Redknapp made 11 changes at the break and Luka Modric set up Aaron Lennon for the second before Darren Bent tapped home the third after a Pavyluchenko effort had been pushed out by the keeper.
