Bristol Rovers 4 – Liverpool XI 3 (Friendly, August 4, 2009) Rickie Lambert and Jo Kuffour put Paul Trollope’s side 2-0 up before Adam Hammill reduced the arrears with a superb curler into the far corner. Byron Anthony then made it 3-1 in the second half before goals from Brazilian Vitor Flora and Hungarian Andras Simon brought John McMahon’s side level. Anthony sealed the win for Rovers with his second of the night.
Blyth Spartans 2 – Newcastle reserves 4 (Friendly, August 4, 2009) Haris Vuckic’s wonderful opener had Blyth chasing the game in the fourth minute but Adrian Webster’s left footed shot made it 1-all six minutes before the break. Wes Ngo Baheng fired home five minutes after the interval and Blyth keeper Mark Bell fumbled Kazenga LuaLua’s shot three minutes later to make it 3-1 to the Magpies. But Blyth set up a tense finish when Chris McCabe’s looping header flew past Ole Soderberg. Starlet Nile Ranger then came off the bench to net in injury time and put the match to bed.
