Boro grind out a point at Everton; Errors cancel each other out as Hull and Man City draw

Everton 1 – Middlesbrough 1 (Premier League, November 16, 2008) The Merseysiders fell behind early on to Boro, the ball was worked from Tuncay to Downing and onto Gary O’Neill who buried a shot in the near post. Everton then picked up their game, dominating the majority of the proceedings but it wasn’t until the 65th minute that Yakubu headed in the equaliser from an Arteta set play. In the end Boro were hanging on for the draw, but they made their point to frustrate the Toffees.

Hull 2 – Manchester City 2 (Premier League, November 16, 2008) (MOTD highlights here.) Tal Ben Haim gifted Daniel Cousin the simplest of openers, the Israeli offering a desperately weak back-pass to Joe Hart which the forward punished with ease. But at the end of the half the Tigers were guilty of their own defensive horror show, Kamil Zayatte played the ball straight into the path of Stephen Ireland who equalised. And on the stroke of half-time City took the lead, Garrido burst down the left, fed a pass into Ireland, who curled a delicious shot past Myhill. In the second half Hull drew level, Geovanni’s free-kick was deflected off Kompany to record his sixth goal of the season.
