Newcastle 1 – Sunderland 1 (Premier League, March 4, 2012) (MOTD highlights.) The Black Cats were awarded a 25th minute penalty after Williamson pulled Turner inside the area, and Nicklas Bendtner guided the spot kick powerfully into the bottom corner. Sunderland were reduced to ten men in the 58th when Stephane Sessegnon stupidly raised his hands on Tiote (although the Magpies took an eternity to hit the deck). The Toon were up on their feet when Shola Ameobi was hacked by Campbell for a second half penalty, but Simon Mignolet came to the Wearsiders’ rescue with a fine save to stop Demba Ba’s spot-kick. In the 91st minute Newcastle finally snatched a leveller as Shola Ameobi got on the end of a flick on at the back post the stab the ball in the net.
After the game, Alan Pardew apologised for some his reactions on the touchline – footage here.
