Arsenal 1 – Manchester City 0 (Premier League, April 8, 2012) (Alternative highlights, MOTD highlights) Arsenal came flying out the traps and thought they should have had a penalty when Vincent Kompany appeared to push Robin van Persie over from a Rocisky centre. And Arsene Wenger’s side were unlucky when Thomas Vermaelen cleared a goal bound header from Robin van Persie off the City line. There was also controversy in the first half as Mario Balotelli avoided a card for a shocking knee-high, studs-up challenge on Alex Song. City came back into it and Mario Balotelli had a chance from a corner. Then Mario Balotelli was lucky not to even receive a booking for another high challenge on Sagna before he did finally pick up the yellow card his first 45 warranted (at the very least). Arsenal came close to breaking the deadlock with a familiar combination but Robin van Persie headed a Song cross on to the post. RVP then had the ball in the net but it was ruled out for offside and an then the Gunners went even closer when Theo Walcott hit the post and Vermaelen and Benayoun managed to miss sitters. The breakthrough finally came on 87 as Mikel Arteta robbed Pizaaro and fired past Hart for the winner. There was still time for Mario Balotelli to pick up a red card and Aaron Ramsey to miss another golden chance.
