Cologne and Arminia draw in the Bundesliga; Heerenveen get the better of PSV in a 5-goal thriller

Heerenveen took the lead through Paulo Henrique after just 15 minutes, but PSV drew level when Balazs Dzsudzsak turned in a Amrabat cross. Timmy Simons then fired PSV into the lead just four minutes later after Vandenbussche spilled an Afellay shot. Heerenveen hit back in the second half, Henrique took advantage of a Simons error on 51 minutes to level the scores and the visitors claimed an in injury time victory when Danijel Pranjic converted a penalty after Jason Culina was sent off for fouling Ingelsten in the box.

Benfica 2 – Leixoes 1 (Superliga, February 27, 2009) Benfica were handed the lead in the 17th minute when Leixoes defender Elvis managed to turn a cross into his own net for a comic own-goal. Nuno Gomes bundled in a second with just over 20 minutes remaining while Rodrigo Silva pulled a goal back for the visitors.

Besiktas 2 – Istanbul Buyuksehir 1 (Super Lig, February 27, 2009) All the goals arrived in a frantic last ten minutes as Besiktas maintained their unbeaten home record. Tello’s 80th minute header put the hosts ahead, only for Gulpinart to level from a free-kick four minutes later. Sixty seconds later Zan won the match with a looping header that just dipped under the bar.

Gimnasia La Plata 2 – Independiente 0 (Clausura, February 27, 2009) Ruben Maldonado broke the deadlock when he headed home a free-kick midway through the first half before Sebastian Romero doubled the advantage with a superb shot from outside the box. Independiente’s Ricardo Moreira was shown a second second yellow card.

Banfield 3 – Rosario Central 1 (Clausura, February 27, 2009) After Diego Bragheri’s opener three minutes before halftime, things got worse for the visitors when Omar Zarif was dismissed after picking up his second yellow card and Banfield’s Nicolas Bertolo soon increased his side’s lead with a header. James Rodriguez then added a third with an outstanding long-range shot before Guillermo Burdisso grabbed a consolation goal with a minute remaining.
