Catania come from behind to beat Inter Milan; Schalke beat Stuttgart to take Bundesliga top spot; Honda drives CSKA to victory over Amkar

Catania 3 – Inter Milan 1 (Serie A, March 12, 2010) After a goalless first half, Inter took an early lead in the second when Diego Milito tapped home from close range following Eto’o’s square ball. Catania levelled when Maxi Lopez tapped home for his first Serie A goal at the Massimino. Late on the game turned when Muntari handled in the box, the Ghanaian was sent off, and Giuseppe Mascara chipped home an outrageous penalty to leave Inter struggling. The Sicilians rounded off the victory in style when Jorge Martinez rounded Julio Cesar to add another dent to Inter’s Scudetto ambitions.

Schalke 2 – Stuttgart 1 (Bundesliga, March 12, 2010) After a goalless first half, it Schalke less than a minute to break the deadlock against Stuttgart after the break as Edu finished off an incisive attack from the home team. Stuttgart were behind for just four minutes before Serdar Tasci headed home the leveller from a free-kick. An action-packed start to the second half continued as Schalke retook the lead in the 55th minute when Stuttgart got their offside tactics completely wrong from a free-kick and Kevin Kuranyi benefitted from the open space to turn home number two. The win put Schalke in top spot, a point ahead of Bayern who face Freiberg on Saturday.

FC Twente 3 – ADO Den Haag 1 (Eredivisie, March 12, 2010) Wesley Verhoek brought the game screaming to life incredibly scoring after just 10 seconds, but that would be as good as things got for struggling Den Haag. Bryan Ruiz levelled for Twente on 32 minutes, successfully converting from the penalty spot. He then grabbed his second of the game on 56 minutes, before Kenneth Perez put the seal on a convincing victory with a third on 69 minutes after a horrific blunder keeper Barry Ditewig.

CSKA Moscow 1 – Amkar Perm 0 (Russian Premier League, March 12, 2010) CSKA recovered after losing the Super Cup with an opening round win in the league, but they had to wait until the 90th minute when Japanese star Keisuke Honda turned in the winner at the far post in his debut match in the Russian top flight.
