Bolton shoot down Liverpool in the reserve league; Adelaide scrape past Waitakere at the Club World Cup

Bolton reserves 2 – Liverpool reserves 1 (Premier Reserve League, December 11, 2008) Gary Ablett’s side took the lead thanks to Krisztian Nemeth’s first goal since returning from injury. But after the break the Reds fell to pieces, particularly after Daniel Ayala was sent off. Bolton responded, Ebi Smolarek equalised from Riga Mustapha’s cross, and minutes later the Polish striker once more finding the net after good work by Temitope Obadeyi on the left. This was Liverpool’s sixth defeat in nine games in the reserve league.

Adelaide United 2 – Waitakere United 1 (Club World Cup, December 11, 2008) The Club World Cup kicked off with a dream start for the organisers as part-timers Waitakere took a shock 34th minute lead as Paul Seaman scored after a fumble from Adelaide goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic. Adelaide soon hit back, Daniel Mullen equalised with a bullet header to level the score at the break (first half highlights here), but the Aussies had to wait until seven minutes from time to seal the win when captain Travis Dodd guided home Paul Reid’s free-kick.
