Newcastle Jets 2 - Wellington Phoenix 2 (A-League, October 6, 2008) Shane Smeltz put the Phoenix ahead in the 51st minute from the penalty spot. But the defending champions leveled the scores courtesy of a stunning curling effort from Tarek Elrich before substitute Kaz Patafta put the Jets ahead eight minutes later. Smeltz had the final say however, slotting home his second penalty to earn a draw.
