Ferguson, Redknapp & Benitez ahead of the Boxing Day games

Sir Alex Ferguson on Mark Hughes’ sacking at Manchester City: “It was unacceptable behaviour. It doesn’t matter whether you have lost 20 games or two, there is a way to treat people. For some reason Christmas seems to bring out the worst in directors. I do not know how you can do something like that. From Saturday morning the rumour mill was working and Mark must have realised it was his last game. It was a terrible position to be in.”

Harry Redknapp on keeping Robbie Keane at Spurs: “I don’t want to sell Robbie, there aren’t too many Robbie Keanes about in the game. He has enthusiasm and knowledge, a lot of things that he brings into the game, so he’s certainly not a player we’d want to lose… Robbie is the captain and that isn’t going to change. Not a chance, and it never, ever entered my mind, I was never going to change it.”

Rafa Benitez on the confidence of his Liverpool players: “I do not accept that the players are not hurt by what is happening. They are working very hard to put things right. I can guarantee 100 per cent that they are trying to win every game and they are upset when things do not go well.”
