All the goals from Tuesday’s action from the League Cup can be seen here, here, here and here.
Coventry 2 - Newcastle 3 AET (League Cup, August 26, 2008) Newcastle took the lead at Coventry when Charles N’Zogbia toe-poked home a cross after 21 minutes (goal accredited as a Dann og). The Toon then doubled their lead with a fortuitous goal as James Milner’s cross evaded everyone and nestled in the far corner. But a brilliant strike from summer signing Clinton Morrison gave Shay Given no chance and brought Coventry back into the tie. Newcastle looked to have seen out the match, but in the dying seconds Coventry took a leaf out of the Rory Delap book, and Scott Dann made amends with a storming header to send the game into extra time. Newcastle were not fazed however, and in the 97th minute Michael Owen pulled away from the last defender to collect a long pass and put Keegan’s side ahead yet again.
Leeds 4 - Crystal Palace 0 (League Cup, August 26, 2008) The Eagles sorry start to the season, which has seen them fail to score in the league so far, continued into the cup as they were hammered by Leeds. Jonathan Douglas, Jermaine Beckford, Luciano Becchio and Enoch Showunmi grabbed the goals.
Southampton 2 - Birmingham 0 (League Cup, August 26, 2008) Lee Holmes (17) and Adam Lallana (86) secured the Saints’ progression.

Chelsea reserves 2 - Manchester United reserves 2 (Friendly, August 26, 2008) Chelsea looked to have sown up the match in the opening 45 minutes, Jacob Mellis and Scott Sinclair gave the Blues a 2-0 lead heading into the break. But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who headed into the match with a seven-match unbeaten record since taking over the reserves, kept his unbeaten record intact with a second half fight-back. Fabio Da Silva fired home a cracking shot which flew into the top corner before Darron Gibson’s equaliser from the penalty spot in the third minute of added time.
