Trinidad and Tobago 3 - Cuba 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, November 19, 2008) Kenwyne Jones and Dwight Yorke scored a goal apiece within two minutes of each other in the second half, and Keon Daniel’s late strike sealed the victory.

San Marino 0 - Czech Republic 3 (2010 World Cup qualifier, November 19, 2008) San Marino did well to hold out in the first half but Radoslav Kovac quickly gave the visitors the lead after the break and Zdenek Pospech doubled their advantage on 53 minutes. Substitute Tomas Necid bagged the third seven minutes from time.
Bahrain 0 - Australia 1 (2010 World Cup qualifier, November 19, 2008) Mark Bresciano’s last-gasp goal ensured Australia maintained their perfect start to the final round of World Cup Asian qualifiers.
Qatar 0 - Japan 3 (2010 World Cup qualifier, November 19, 2008) Japan took the lead in the 19th minute when Tanaka slipped the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs. Tamada scored in the 47th with a hard left-footed shot from the edge of the area, before Tanaka made it 3-nil with a close-range header.
Saudi Arabia 0 - South Korea 2 (2010 World Cup qualifier, November 19, 2008) The Saudis were reduced to 10-men in the 58th minute when Naif Hazazi picked up his second yellow card of the match. The visitors took advantage of their extra numbers, Lee Kuen-ho slotted home the opener and Park Chu-young’s struck a powerful right-footed shot from just outside the box in injury time.
UAE 1 - Iran 1 (2010 World Cup qualifier, November 19, 2008) Abdul-Raheem Jumaa gave the hosts the lead in the 19th minute, but Karim Bagheri earned Iran a point heading home a cross from Masoud Shojaei.
USA 2 - Guatemala 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, November 19, 2008) Kenny Cooper scored the opening goal in the 54th minute for the Americans before Freddy Adu scored his first goal for the senior national team with a splendid free-kick in the 69th minute.
Honduras 1 - Mexico 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, November 19, 2008) Mexico continued their dismal away form under Sven Goran-Eriksson as they were sunk by a Ricardo Osorio own goal. Mexico’s frustration boiled over the last five minutes when both Gerardo Torrado and Carlos Vela were sent off. Mexico sneaked through to the next round on goal-difference, while Honduras topped the group as winners.
El Salvador 1 - Costa Rica 3 (2010 World Cup qualifier, November 19, 2008)
Jamaica 3 - Canada 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, November 19, 2008) The John Barnes revival continues to go form strength to strength, even though this result failed to advance the Reggae Boys to the next stage. Goals from Luton Shelton, Marlon King and Omar Cummings sealed the win.

Belarus 1 - England 3 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) (Longer highlights here.)Â Steven Gerrard put England ahead in the 11th minute, the ball broke to Gerrard 30-yards out and the Liverpool captain expertly passed the ball into the bottom left-hand corner for a brilliant opener. But England switched off midway through the half, and they were punished when no existent marking allowed Pavel Sitko to ghost between Walcott and Brown and nod home a Stasevich cross. (First half highlights here.) England reasserted their authority at the start of the second half, Wayne Rooney profited after great work down the left from Emile Heskey. Capello watched his side kill the game in the 74th minute, Gerrard cushioned a pass into Rooney, and the United forward outfoxed both the covering defender and keeper to kill the game. England controlled the final stages of the game, and even though Gerrard hit the post when faced with an open goal, England rejoiced in a job well done.
Belgium 1 - Spain 2 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) Spain’s incredible record of over 700 minutes without conceding a goal was shot down within seven minutes in Belgium, Kompany’s cross was headed home by Wesley Sonck (two in two). Axel Witsel then tried a spectacular overhead-kick, but his effort went just wide. But Spain responded with a stunning goal, Fabregas’ threaded a ball through to the advancing Andres Iniesta, he heading towards the goal, sold the keeper a dummy, and slotted in at the near post. On the stroke of halftime David Villa had a shot saved by Stijnen. (First half highlights here.) Iniesta came within a whisker of giving Spain the lead at the start of the second half with a rasping drive, but the European Champions were then indebted to Carlos Puyol, who saved off the line. Eventually Spain ran out winners, David Villa headed home the winner.
Italy 2 - Montenegro 1 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) Italy’s Alberto Aquilani scored after just eight minutes, converting Pepe’s parried shot at the far post. Montenegro equalised through their star player Mirko Vucinic, but the Azzurri went into the break ahead after Aquilani completed a first half brace. (First half highlights here.)
Norway 0 - Holland 1 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) Afellay and Carew exchanged half chances, and then Dirk Kuyt came closest when he rattled the crossbar. Norway then fell behind to the Oranje midway through the second half when Rafael van der Vaart’s corner fell to Mark van Bommel, who struck a low volley from outside the box that nestled in the bottom corner.
Germany 1 - Wales 0 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) Per Trochowski scored a beauty to down Wales in a tight match.
Czech Republic 1 - Slovenia 0 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) The Czechs waited until the 62nd minute before they broke the deadlock, Libor Sionko rose high at the back post to head in Sverkos’ cross.
Russia 3 - Finland 0 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) After Zhirkov’s initial shot was saved, Petri Pasanen put through his own net to hand Russia the advantage. (First half highlights here.) Just after the hour mark Russia chalked up their second when a fabulous end-to-end move eventually ended when Lampi turned home a cross for the second Finnish own goal of the game. Andrei Arshavin capped off the win with a superb solo goal, beating two defenders and then Jaaskelainen before firing high in the near post.
Greece 1 - Switzerland 2 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) In the big game in Group 2, Alexander Frei put the Swiss 1-up in Greece from the spot after Behrami was hacked down in the box. Charisteas continued his recent form netting the equaliser in the 68th minute. But the Swiss came back to steal all three points, Blaise Nkufo was the hero rounding the keeper and scoring the winner.
Latvia 1 - Israel 1 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) After taking out the Latvian coach with a fine tackle, Yossi Benayoun gave Israel the lead just after the break with a superb run and shot, placed into the top corner, to set the visitors on target for their third victory in four group matches. But all hopes of opening up a gap at the top of the group were dashed as Vladimirs Kolesnichenko struck a late leveller to secure a point for Latvia.
Austria 1 - Serbia 3 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) Radomir Antic’s team were 3-0 up within the first half hour with Milos Krasic (fantastic strike), Milan Jovanovic and Ivan Obradovic all scoring to all but put the game out of the home side’s reach. Marc Janko pulled a goal back with ten minutes remaining but a further fight-back never looked likely.
Croatia 4 - Andorra 0 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) The scoring was opened by Rakitic’s superb 20-yard freekick in the 16th minute. Luka Modric had a 32nd-minute penalty saved by Alvarez, but Olic slotted home the rebound to make it 2-0 at the break. Modric poached a deflected cross from just inside the box on 75 minutes while Rakitic added his second from the penalty spot three minutes from time.
Estonia 0 - Turkey 0 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008)
Lithuania 1 - Faroe Islands 0 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) Tomas Danilevicius turned and shot from 20-yards out to put Lithuania ahead.
Malta 0 - Hungary 1 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) Sandor Torghelle scored the only goal in the 23rd minute.
Slovakia 2 - Poland 1 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) After Ebi Smolarek had given the Poles the lead in the 70th minute, a quick-fire brace from Stanislav Sestak on 85 and 86 gave the home side an incredible win.
Portugal 0 - Albania 0 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) Portugal haven’t won since their opening game of World Cup qualification and now have just five points from four games. Admir Teli was sent-off for Albania in the 50th minute for a tussle with Cristiano Ronaldo, but the Portuguese could still not find the breakthrough.
Bosnia-Herezegovina 4 - Armenia 1 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) Emir Spahic and Edin Dzeko gave the home side a 2-0 lead at half-time (first-half highlights here). Zlatan Muslimovic added a third, before late on Vahagn Minyasan pulled one back and Muslimovic added the fourth (Second-half highlights here).
Georgia 0 - Bulgaria 0 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008)Â (Longer highlights here.)Â A third consecutive draw, a third consecutive half-hearted display, dealt a significant blow to Bulgaria’s chances to qualify for South Africa 2010.
Chile 1 - Argentina 0 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) (Longer highlights here.) Debutant Fabian Orellana scored the only goal from a Gary Medel cross in the 35th minute.
Brazil 0 - Colombia 0 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) The Maracana jeered Dunga, the team and then left early as the Samba Boys produced another lacklustre display. (First-half highlights here. Second-half highlights here.)
Paraguay 1 - Peru 0 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) Edgar Benitez got the only goal in the 81st minute after a scramble in the box. Paraguay now lead South American qualification by six points.
Venezuela 3 - Ecuador 1 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008)
Australia 4 - Qatar 0 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) (Longer highlights here.) Tim Cahill scored the opener on nine minutes with a sweet left-foot finish from a sweeping Socceroos move. The Everton midfielder then won a penalty eight minutes later after Qatar defender Koni was adjudged to have pushed him, allowing Emerton to bang home from the penalty spot. The Socceroos effectively put the match beyond doubt just inside the hour, when Emerton netted his second, with Josh Kennedy completing the rout heading home a Luke Wilkshire cross. (Second half highlights here.)
South Korea 4 - UAE 1 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) South Korea took a 20th minute lead when Lee latched onto a through-ball to guide the ball goalwards. And just minutes later Ji-Sung Park added the second as awful defending presented the Manchester United midfielder with a goalscoring opportunity which he took with aplomb. With 20 minutes to go the Al Hammadi robbed the ball off the Korean defence, sold the keeper a dummy, and coolly pulled a goal back. But any hopes of a comeback were snuffed out by Lee, who bagged his second of the game with a low drive into the far corner. Kwak sealed the win with a fourth two minutes from time.
Iran 2 - North Korea 1 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) In the battle of the wannabe nuclear powers, veteran Mehdi Mahdavikia headed Iran in the lead, which was extended by Nekounam just after the hour mark. Jong Tae-se’s towering header pulled a goal back for North Korea, but they failed to find the equaliser. (Both second half goals can be seen here.)
Japan 1 - Uzbekistan 1 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) Uzbekistan took the lead against the run of play, Shatskikh sliding in to score from close range after 27 minutes. Japan equalised through Tamada, who bundled home Okubo’s pull-back five minutes before halftime.
Canada 2 - Mexico 2 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) Ali Gerba stunned the visitors when he caught Oswaldo Sanchez off his line to lob the keeper in the 13th minute, but Mexico levelled with a deflected Carlos Salcido free-kick in the 34th. The hosts regained the lead four minutes after halftime when Tomasz Radzinski pounced on slack defending, but Mexico forced another equaliser in the 64th minute when Matias Vuoso connected beautifully with a header from Giovani Dos Santos’s pass.
El Salvador 3 - Suriname 0 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008)Â Rodolfo Zelaya and Eliseo Quintanilla put them 2-0 ahead in less than half an hour before Derrik Garden put through his own goal late in the game.
Jamaica 1 - Honduras 0 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) John Barnes continues to work wonders in the Carribbean, Luton Shelton rounded the keeper to score Jamaica’s only goal in the 16th minute to make it back-to-back wins for the Reggae Boys.
Trinidad & Tobago 2 - United States 1 (2010 World Cup qualifiers, October 15, 2008) 44-year-old Russell Latapy put Trinidad ahead in the 62nd minute with a volley which hit the post and bounced off keeper Brad Guzan and into the net. Charlie Davies equalised for the visitors from Jozy Altidore’s pass before Altidore turned villain four minutes later when he pulled Hislop’s shirt in the area and 40-year-old Dwight Yorke converted the penalty. The Americans, already sure of their place in the next phase, rested eight first-team regulars and lost their 100% record.

Bolivia 2 - Uruguay 2 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 14, 2008) Marcelo Martins opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a low shot into the corner of the net. Marcelo Martins then doubled Bolivia’s lead, thanks in part to slack defending when he slipped his marker and scored with a free header just before the break. Uruguay’s fightback began when Carlos Bueno rose between two defenders to head in Silva’s cross. And they equalised when Sebastian Abreu rose at the far post to head in a curling cross from the left.

England 5 - Kazakhstan 1 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) (Longer highlights here.) In the 16th minute, Theo Walcott shot wide from outside the box as England struggled to get behind the Kazakhstan defence. (First half highlights here.) Early in the second half, Rio Ferdinand headed England into the lead after the Kazakhstan keeper flapped at a corner from Lampard. Just over ten minutes later, England doubled their lead when Alexandr Kuchma headed in a Frank Lampard free-kick. The Borats pulled one back when Ashley Cole played a disastrous ball through for Zhambyl Kukeyev to slot home. Wayne Rooney restored England’s two-goal advantage, when he headed home a Wes Brown cross. With six minutes remaining, Wayne Rooney added his second and England’s fourth after the Kazakh defence again failed to deal with a cross from deep, this time from Beckham. Jermain Defoe added the fifth late on. (Second half highlights here.)
Scotland 0 - Norway 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) This game will be remembered for a shocking second half miss by Chris Iwelumo, who somehow managed to fire wide from two yards out in front of an open goal, minutes after coming on.
Germany 2 - Russia 1 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) (Longer highlights here.) Germany came flying out the traps against Russia, storming into a eighth minute lead with a well worked opener. Schweinsteiger’s backheel fell into the path of Klose, he fed Podolski, and after a neat turn the Bayern striker hit his 31st goal for for his country. Germany then extended their lead after dominating the early stages, Schweinsteiger’s tidy cross in the box found Michael Ballack who turned the ball home at the back post. Jogi Low then took a load off as half time approached. (First half highlights here.) But after the break Phillip Lahm lost concentration and the ball to Anlukov, and the full back threaded a beautiful pass to Arshavin who pulled a goal back after the 51st minute. The Russians pressurised heavily in the final stages, but Gemrany hung on the record the win. (Second half highlights here.)
Romania 2 - France 2 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) Raymond Domenech watched France give away a sloppy 5th minute opener away at Romania, a wayward pass deceived Boumsong and Florentin Petre stole in on the blindside to fire past Mandanda. And the French nightmare intensified 12 minutes later, Dorin Goian lost Alain Boumsong to head home a corner. Franck Ribery gave Les Bleus hope in the 36th minute, slotting home after a slick one-touch pass from Yoann Gourcuff in the build up. At the end of the first half, Boumsong delivered a kung-fu kick on Mutu, but he fortunately only got a booking. With half an hour to go Yoann Gourcuff grabbed a wonderful equaliser, collecting a pass from Ribery 35-yards from goal before letting rip with a thunderbolt that raced in via the underside of the bar. France went for the win, but Lobont made two fabulous saves from Henry and a follow-up to deny any hopes of a turnaround.
Finland 1 - Azerbaijan 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) Mikael Forssell scored the only goal from the penalty spot just after the hour.
Wales 2 - Liechtenstein 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) David Edwards broke the deadlock with his first international goal after 42 minutes, slotting home a Simon Davies cut back. The home side struck again with 10 minutes remaining when visiting captain Mario Frick deflected in Ched Evans’s header. Wales could have been 2-0 up at the break but captain Craig Bellamy’s 44th minute penalty was saved by Peter Jehle.
Turkey 2 - Bosnia-Herzegovina 1 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) After earning a free-kick tight on the left hand side, the ball was swung in the Turkish box and Dzeko headed Bosnia into the lead. After the break Turkey equalised with a set play of their own, Arda Turan the beneficiary for the hosts. And it was again from a set play that the Turks eventually won the game, Cetin was left alone deep at the back post, and his header was parried by keeper Hasagic into the path of Erding.
Bulgaria 0 - Italy 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) (Longer highlights here.) Bulgaria and Italy were deadlocked heading into the latter stages of the match, Yankov fired a free-kick over the bar for the hosts while Gilardino’s free-kick was sent straight down the throat of Ivankov. De Rossi tried his luck from distance with a clean strike that sailed just over the bar, but in the end each side earned a point.
Holland 2 - Iceland 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) Van der Vaart’s delicious left wing cross was gobbled up by Joris Mathijsen to give Holland a 15th minute advantage. Klass-Jan Huntelaar wrapped up the win with a clinical strike in the second half.
Belgium 2 - Armenia 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) Belgium’s Wesley Sonck struck early on against Armenia.
Poland 2 - Czech Republic 1 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) After well publicised problems, Polish football had something to smile about after Blaszczykowski’s determined run fell kindly to Pawel Brozak, and the Wisla striker fired past Petr Cech. After the break Poland added a classy second, Kuba Blaszczykowski was freed in the inside right channel and the forward charged down on goal before chipped the onrushing Cech. Fenin’s late goal was too little too late for the Czechs.
Greece 3 - Moldova 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) Greece moved ahead of Moldova when a well worked free-kick was cleverly converted in the near post by Charisteas. And the hosts doubled the lead with a howitzer from Katsouranis that almost burst the back of the net.
Estonia 0 - Spain 3 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) (Longer highlights here.) Juanito scored Spain’s opener at Estonia with a header. David Villa added a second from the spot and Carlos Puyol wrapped up the win nodding home after Torres’ header crashed against the bar.
Serbia 3 - Lithuania 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) Buoyed by his recent debut for Chelsea, Branislav Ivanovic was in the right place to head Serbia ahead from a corner. Milos Krasic slammed home a second after consistent pressure, and giant Nikola Zigic turned home a cross eight minutes from time to complete the win.
Georgia 1 - Cyprus 1 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) After Constantinou opened for Cyprus, Kobiashvili levelled with a low left foot drive.
Hungary 2 - Albania 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) Hungary grabbed the advantage after 49th minutes when frontman Torghelle met Huszti’s inch-perfect cross from the left to head home. The victory was complete nine minutes from time when Juhasz nodded in a cross from Buzsaky.
Ukraine 0 - Croatia 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) Croatia’s Ivica Olic came closest to a goal when his header from a 50th-minute corner struck the bar. Olic and Luka Modric also forced good saves from Ukraine keeper Pyatov.
Sweden 0 - Portugal 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) Johan Elmander missed a hat-trick of first half chances as the match ended all square.
Argentina 2 - Uruguay 1 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) Argentina’s two young attacking starlets both got on the scoresheet in the opening stages against Uruguay. Lionel Messi stooped at the back post to head in the first, and Kun Aguero was in the right place to drive home the second. But the visitors got themselves back in the game when Lugano scored six minute before the break. (First-half highlights here.)
Bolivia 3 - Peru 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) Joaquin Botero hit an early brace for Bolivia against Peru, nodding home a simple opener before heading home a free-kick after 16 minutes. (First-half highlights here.) Garcia smashed home a stunning 25-yarder on the angle to complete the victory.
Colombia 0 - Paraguay 1 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) Paraguay maintained their hold on top spot in South American qualification thanks to Salvador Cabanas’ quick thinking, catching keeper Julio off guard and scoring with a swerving 30-yard shot from near the touchline in the ninth minute.
Senegal 1 - Gambia 1 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) Mangane gave Senegal the lead with a scrappy opener.
Morocco 4 - Mauritania 1 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008)
Liberia 0 - Algeria 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008)
Honduras 3 - Canada 1 (2010 World Cup qualifier, October 11, 2008) Walter Martinez opened the scoring for Honduras, but Andrew Hainault equalised after Friend’s header hit the crossbar then bounced off the onrushing Hainault’s thigh into the goal. But Carlo Costly’s long-range rocket into the top right corner beat Hirschfeld in the 65th minute and Hendry Thomas rubbed salt in the wound with a close-range header in injury time.
