Siena snatch the advantage over Napoli in the Coppa Italia semi, first leg

>Siena 2 – Napoli 1 (Coppa Italia, February 9, 2012) After a series of Siena throw-in in the final stages of the first half, the home side worked the ball to the onrushing Reginaldo who executed a fine lift over the keeper to score. Napoli’s task became that much harder midway through the second half as Gaetano D’Agostino fired Siena into a 2-goal lead. The visitors claimed a lifeline in the 84th minute when Emanuele Pesoli scored an own goal to leave the second leg wide open.

Scudetto outsiders Lazio go from 2-down with 10-men to 3-2 victors over Cesena

Lazio 3 – Cesena 2 (Serie A, February 9, 2012) Cesena stormed into an early lead in Roma through centre-forward Adrian Mutu. Lazio’s match imploded in the 33rd minute when Abdoulay Konko was shown a straight red card whilst giving away a penalty, and Cesena duly cashed in from the spot through Vincenzo Iaquinta. Lazio began their fightback in the 53rd minute when Hernanes halved the deficit. Edoardo Reja’s side then clawed their way back to parity through Senad Lulic in the 61st, and incredibly the ten Romans completed their turnaround just two minutes later when Libor Kozak fired the Scudetto outsides 3-2 ahead. Caceres has a magical Juventus debut at AC Milan

AC Milan 1 – Juventus 2 (Coppa Italia, February 8, 2012) Martin Caceres proved the unlikely goalscorer for Juve as the Old Lady took a 53rd minute lead at the San Siro. The Rossoneri were level inside ten minutes as Stephan El Shaarawy maintained his fine recent form with the equaliser, but seven minutes from time Martin Caceres – on debut – netted his second of the contest to seal a deserved win for the Bianconeri.

Ranieri on the rocks as Inter crash at Roma; Zlatan off as Napoli hold Milan; Siena hold Juve

Roma 4 – Inter Milan 0 (Serie A, February 5, 2012) Juan continued his recent goalscoring trend heading Roma in front against Inter from an early corner. Roma’s talisman Francesco Totti was in fine form as he almost teed up a second for Roma with a brilliant backheel pass, but it didn’t take the Giallorossi too long to cash in on a second goal as Fabio Borini showed a cool head in the 35th. Roma killed the contest early in the second half as Fabio Borini netted his second of the game. Inter’s sorry afternoon was completed when Bojan Krkic scored a late fourth.

AC Milan 0 – Napoli 0 (Serie A, February 5, 2012) Milan were reduced to ten men in the 64th minute after Zlatan Ibrahimovic sent off for slapping Napoli defender Salvatore Aronica.

Juventus 0 – Siena 0 (Serie A, February 5, 2012) Siena goalie Gianluca Pegolo was in inspired form for the visitors to deny the Old Lady their thirteenth win of the season and earn his side a valuable point in the process.

Palermo 2 – Atalanta 1 (Serie A, February 5, 2012) Palermo took the lead in the first half through a Fabrizio Miccoli penalty, and Atalanta fell further behind early in the second half when Igor Budan turned home a corner. Although Maximiliano Moralez pulled a goal back seven minutes later, the Sicilian outfit held on to make it 10 points from the last 12 on offer.

Fiorentina 3 – Udinese 2 (Serie A, February 5, 2012) Antonio Di Natale’s early strike was cancelled out by a Stevan Jovetic penalty and the Montenegro international was to score from the spot again in the second half.  Mattia Cassani also netted for Fiorentina and they held on for all three points despite Romanian Gabriel Torje’s late consolation.

Lazio’s top four assault takes a knock at Genoa

Genoa 3 – Lazio 2 (Serie A, February 5, 2012) Genoa took a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to first half goals from Rodrigo Palacio (crazy flick from a corner) and Bosko Jankovic. A minute after the restart Bosko Jankovic netted his second of the game to leave Lazio reeling, however the visitors did get on the scoreboard courtesy of a Cristian Ledesma penalty in the 53rd. Modibo Diakite saw red for the Romans in the final ten minutes, but Lazio were still able to set up a grandstand finish as Alvaro Gonzalez netted a second in the 90th minute.

Chievo keep rock-bottom Novara at the foot of the Serie A table

Novara 1 – Chievo 2 (Serie A, February 2, 2012 Rock-bottom Novara feel behind in the 33rd minute when indecision in their defence was duly punished by Cheivo’s main-man Sergio Pellissier. The Flying Donkeys seemed to wrap up their win when Cyril Thereau scored a secon in the 78th, but within a minute Novara halved the deficit as Giuseppe Mascara scored.

Milan’s Scudetto charge takes a hit at Lazio; Cagliari comeback to romp Roma 4-2

Lazio 2 – AC Milan 0 (Serie A, February 1, 2012) AC Milan’s title challenge took a nosedive 15 minutes from time when a sublime shot on the turn from Hernanes gave Lazio the lead. Milan’s defeat was cemented when Tommaso Rocchi added a second in the final stages.

Cagliari 4 – Roma 2 (Serie A, February 1, 2012) Thiago Ribeiro’s long-ranger thumper blasted Cagliari ahead early on, but Roma were soon back level when Juan powered home a header from a set-play. The Giallorossi took the lead in the 34th when Fabio Borini followed up a free-kick, however Cagliari equalised in the 41st through Mauricio Pinilla. A ding-dong thriller turned in the hosts’ favour in the 49th when Thiago Ribeiro scored his second of the match from a Pinilla assist. Albin Ekdal wrapped up the home win in injury time.

Milito stars in Inter 4 – Palermo 4; Udinese beat Lecce; Napoli struggle with Cesena

Inter Milan 4 – Palermo 4 (Serie A, February 1, 2012) Andrea Mantovani put Palermo in front in the 16th minute, but Diego Milito scored the first of his four goals six minutes later. Miccoli got his name on the scoresheet for the first time to put Palermo in front again in the 52nd minute before two more goals from Milito turned the game around into Inter’s favour.  Miccoli brought Palermo level again in the 66th minute, but Milito struck again two minutes later to put Inter in front. However, the last word was reserved for Miccoli, who earned Palermo a point five minutes from time.

Udinese 2 – Lecce 1 (Serie A, February 1, 2012) The home side got off to a flying start when Michele Pazienza fired them in front after just two minutes, but David Di Michele drew Lecce level on 26 minutes.  Ten minutes later top scorer Antonio Di Natale hit the winner for Udinese.

Napoli 0 – Cesena 0 (Serie A, February 1, 2012) Napoli’s recent poor of form continued after they were held to a goalless draw by struggling Cesena at the San Paolo.

Milan crash three past Cagliari to close in on Juve

AC Milan 3 – Cagliari 0 (Serie A, January 29, 2012) A wonderful arching free-kick from Zlatan Ibrahimovic blasted Milan ahead just after the half hour. In the 39th minute Antonio Nocerino doubled the Rossoneri’s lead from a Zlatan assist. The points were sown up 15 minutes from time when Massimo Ambrosini scored a quality goal with the outside of his boot.
