Montpellier’s late show against Lille puts one hand on the championship; Nene keeps PSG in the hunt

Montpellier 1 – Lille 0 (Ligue 1, May 13, 2012) Montpellier found a winner four minutes into second-half stoppage time with Olivier Giroud setting up substitute Karim Ait Fana to strike the winner.

PSG 3 – Rennes 0 (Ligue 1, May 13, 2012) PSG had to wait for the 47th minute to take the lead, with Menez racing down the left and cutting the ball back for Nene to sweep home. The Brazilian’s second goal, a superb free-kick, arrived in the 58th minute and he completed his first ever Ligue 1 hat-trick seven minutes later with an emphatic penalty after Menez had been tripped by Rennes defender Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik.

Montpellier overcome resilient Rennes to retake top spot in France

Rennes 0 – Montpellier 2 (Ligue 1, May 7, 2012) Slack defending in the Rennes backline midway through the first half allowed Souleymane Camara to slam home the opener for title challengers Montpellier. Early in the second half the visitors got a crucial and lucky second as Remy Cabella’s 25-yarder hit post, the ball bounced out and struck Rennes goalkeeper Benoit Costil and the head, before finally entering the goalmouth.

Lille reach the Champions League beating Caen 3-0

Lille 3 – Caen 0 (Ligue 1, May 7, 2012) Tulio De Melo put Lille ahead with a 26th minute penalty, and within ten minutes De Melo made it 2-nil scoring from a corner. Lille killed the match on the hour when Dimitri Payet cantered clear from Eden Hazard’s sublime throughball before calmly beating Thebaux with his right instep.

Gouffran scores after 13 seconds as Bordeaux send Auxerre bottom; Sochaux escape the drop-zone

Auxerre 2 – Bordeaux 4 (Ligue 1, May 7, 2012) Bordeaux had a magical start to the match as Yoan Gouffran scored the fastest goal of the Ligue 1 season netting after just 13 seconds. Bordeaux powered on after scoring as Gouffran made it 2-nil after five minutes, while Ludovic Sane extended the visitors lead to 3-0 with a header in the 9th. (First half highlights) Jaroslav Plasil put the final nail in Auxerre’s coffin at the start of the second half before Alain Traore and Olivier Kapo scored consolation goals.

Sochaux 1 – Nancy 0 (Ligue 1, May 7, 2012) Five minutes from time Sebastien Roudet scored a lovely dinked shot that took Sochaux out of the bottom three.

PSG go top of Ligue 1 winning a 4-3 thriller at Valenciennes; Evian ease past Ajaccio 2-1

Valenciennes 3 – PSG 4 (Ligue 1, May 6, 2012) Vincent Aboubakar and Remi Gomis stunned the capital club inside the opening 11 minutes but PSG’s reply was even more impressive as they roared into a 3-2 lead before half-time. Nene, Maxwell and Blaise Matuidi grabbed the goals and a defining win looked assured when Jeremy Menez added a fourth on 58 minutes. But there was further drama as Aboubakar grabbed his second with 10 minutes left, but PSG just about managed to cling on for a win that puts the pressure back on Montpellier.

Evian 2 – Ajaccio 1 (Ligue 1, May 6, 2012) The visitors took the lead through Benjamin Andre, but Cedric Barbosa immediately equalised and Daniel Wass’ second-half free-kick earned the three points for Evian, who are set for a top-half finish in their first season following promotion.

Marseille 1 – Nancy 0 (Ligue 1, May 2, 2012) Loic Remy slipped Marseille into the lead against Nancy as the hosts looked to arrest a 13-game winless slump.

Lyon 4 – Valenciennes 1 (Ligue 1, May 2, 2012) Lisandro Lopez fired cup holders Lyon 1-up vin the 25th minute, but the lead was short-lived as Renaud Cohade levelled from the spot. Cris, Lopez and Briand scored the match winning goals.

Bordeaux 2 – Rennes 0 (Ligue 1, May 2, 2012) Bordeaux asserted tehir authority early in the second half as Ludovic Obraniak and Landry N’Guemo scored goals to leave Rennes 2-down.

Nice 0 – Lille 1 (Ligue 1, May 2, 2012) Lille got off to a rip-roaring start at Nice as Tulio De Melo headed the visitors ahead.

Montpellier drop two points at home to Evian amid crazy late penalty drama

Montpellier 2 – Evian 2 (Ligue 1, May 1, 2012) Younes Belhanda’s penalty on 42 for the Ligue 1 leaders was quickly levelled up by Thomas Kahlenberg and Evian took a shock lead through Kevin Berigaud with 20 minutes to go. Montpellier equalised through an offside looking goal from Oliver Giroud on 84 and should have won it in the dying seconds. Souleymane Camara saw his penalty saved by Steohan Anderson after Belhanda and two Evian players (Mongongu & Khelifa) had been sent off.

Eden Hazard stars as Lille comeback all but ends PSG’s title hopes

Lille 2 – PSG 1 (Ligue 1, April 29, 2012) Javier Pastore had headed PSG in front only for Eden Hazard to equalise on 71 from the penalty spot and the Belgium playmaker then chipped in a rabona cross for Nolan Roux to win the match on 79.
